Before leaving, Francis Millward reminded all of us to BE FLEXIBLE with love.

Drawing her finger across her forehead, while having us all do the same and repeating the words...BE FLEXIBLE...was a good reminder to be prepared to go with the flow and not get all bent out of shape if things do not go quite as planned or expected.

Love is required to do this, we need to love one another and make allowances for people.

So always, BE FLEXIBLE with love

Teens from area churches gathered at St. Paul's in Berea to sign up for an afternoon of community service.
First each participant fills out a permission slip with their parents, then they choose the project they want to participate in that day.

There was leaf raking, Lakeside Men's Shelter, St Hermans, Eliza Bryant Village and Transitional Housing available to choose from this past Saturday.

After signing up, the group gathered in a room for prayer and Francis Millwards encouraging message. Then they set off on their adventures!

Olmsted Community Church is located at 7853 Main Street in Olmsted Falls, Ohio from noon to six pm. Olmsted Community Churches mission is "to be Christ to the world." Their website states that this mission keeps them moving forward to know that in everything they do, they are representing the loving Savior and embodying the good news of God's love to others. If you'd like to join them to worship, their services are Saturday at 5 PM in the Chapel and Sundays at 10 AM in the Sanctuary.

The free Thanksgiving dinner is being organized by the Grand Pacific Model Railroad & Hobby. This great little hobby shop has anything a train collector needs, they are the only MTH authorized repair service in Northeast Ohio. Their extensive inventory of model train and accessories boasts the hard to find 027-O gauge model railroad items.

Visit their store at 25564 Bagley Road near the corner of Bagley and Columbia Roads in Olmsted Falls, Ohio.

Community Service Day with Students from Baldwin Wallace

The students that came in to help on Saturday October 24th, did a little bit of everything from selling raffle tickets, to sorting donations, preparing boxes of kitchen ware to give to needy families and cleaning, lots of cleaning. They also helped create new signage for inside and out.

....Share Bread with the Hungry....

The number of people needing assistance this year is hardly a match for the dedicated volunteers at Church Street Ministries.

The Food Bank is at a record low. Food is desperately needed. Please consider hosting a mini food drive at your place of business, school or church...the area hungry and the workers who are trying to provide for them, beg you!

The food pantry appreciates any non-perishable items, but is always in need of staples like;
tuna fish
canned meat
peanut butter
jelly
spaghetti
chicken noodle soup
apple sauce
baby food
cereal
diapers
laundry detergent
bar soap
paper towels
toilet paper

We do have a freezer for frozen foods and a refrigerator for some perishables like butter

Double the impact.

That’s what happens when people shop at Berea’s Second Mile Shop. You not only find great bargains, but all the profits benefit others through Church Street Ministries. The shop recently relocated from Church Street to 398 W. Bagley Road in Williamsport Plaza, so it’s now in a place most area residents can actually find. The space was formerly occupied by the license bureau.

Everywhere you look in this neatly arranged store, you can find a great deal. All items come from generous donors who receive a receipt for their taxes. Items are thoroughly checked and then sent to one of several places. Some household items go directly to people in need through area church outreach programs for people who may have been burned out of a home or are fleeing from a dangerous country. That’s where donations of bedding and household goods are especially helpful.

Furniture goes to the Church Street Ministries store now located at 1480 W. Bagley Road (we’ll visit there in the future). Most items are cleaned and arranged in the Second Mile Shop.

Some items that don’t fit into any of those categories go to Easter Seals and Purple Heart Veterans. So donations always go to a nonprofit agency.

Amary Makari is the manager of the shop with her assistant Bobbi Cavanaugh. Five volunteers from churches around the area run the shop from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Donations are also accepted those days.

Because hours are limited, the store is usually packed with customers looking for that special item at very reasonable prices. It’s pretty likely you will find it.

Shelves are filled with sparkling glassware, pictures and frames, shoes, purses, jewelry of all kinds, candles, knickknacks, puzzles, toys, stuffed animals, hundreds of clothing items and even sewing patterns. "People often come in looking for them," Makari said, "because they still make clothing at home."

During holidays, there will be a special themed section. This month Halloween items are featured.

There are even books and CDs, not originally in the store, but because of requests from customers, they were added.

Makari said that collectors can be found each week sorting through the newest items looking for something they want, perhaps to resell it elsewhere. "That’s great," she said, "everyone benefits."

For those who can’t pay, outreach ministries will provide them with vouchers, she said. Those people can pick out three complete outfits with a voucher.

The biggest event of the Second Mile Shop year is the annual Christmas sale. This year it will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 19, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 20, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 21 in Suite 6 at Williamsport Plaza. It’s so huge a special space had to be used for it.
